Linear City

A linear city is an urban settlement of cluster type in which the surface of the earth is intended for pedestrians and green plants, and transport, energy and information communications are located above the ground on the "second level" (on special supports).

The basic principle of the construction of each infrastructure cluster is a pedestrian quarter, in which comfortable low-rise buildings with the widespread greening of urban areas and the use of renewable energy sources are located between multifunctional high-rise buildings, all interconnected by horizontal lifts.

 The key element of the system are horizontal lifts (transport arteries), connecting the neighboring high-rise buildings, settlements, residential, shopping, entertainment and other clusters, allowing people to comfortably move between them in a matter of minutes. An important advantage is that the cost of public transport can be included, as with conventional elevators in the buildings, into the cost per square meter of a quarter of the linear city while maintaining the average comparative cost of new housing.

Advantages of the Sky Way transport and infrastructure complex:
  1. Low net cost of construction and transport service

Automation of the transport and infrastructure complex and optimal transport logistics; in the framework of the linear city the average time spent by a passenger in transit from home to work is not more than 15−20 minutes at distances up to 15 kilometers.

  1. Highest safety level

High transport, environmental and anti-terrorism safety, due to the exclusion of intersections, pedestrian crossings and oncoming lanes, where frontal collisions of rolling stock are possible. In addition, the high-rise string-rail track structure has a tenfold safety factor and is inaccessible to vandals, and the rolling stock is equipped with an anti-derailment system.

Urban transport – up to 120–150 km/h; high-speed intercity transport – up to 450–500 km/h.

  1. Minimum operating costs

Operating costs are reduced by 5–7 times compared with automobile and by 2–3 times in comparison with railway (tram) transport.

  1. Use of renewable power sources

The Sky Way transport complex with electric motors for efficient and cost effective movement on a "steel wheel – steel rail" design (including the application of a unique motor-wheel) can cover 100% of its power needs by renewable energy sources – solar and wind.

  1. Recovery of live fertile soil

Live fertile soil and natural ecosystems (flora and fauna) can be recovered in any natural environment, including a desert.
